We have survived the alterations to the clubhouse and as long as you head off in a different direction from what you were accustomed to, you might end up where you want to be!!
To find May, however, our very efficient secretary, you need a compass, then head SW, at the back of the Pro Shop. The men and ladies are settled in their new quarters---the men in ¾ and the ladies in ¼!! Mention must be made of the "shoe cleaning" premises in the men's---very impressive--hope the expected rush of dirty shoes materialises ! But joking apart, we are pleased to be where we are and the men must be delighted to be no longer camping in the carpark.
Club Champs took place in March and, for once, we were blessed with perfect golfing weather---cool and overcast, no rain and no lightning----this will temporarily silence the "why don't we play in May" brigade. Some, more than others, took advantage of the splendid conditions, none more so than our new Champion, Jane Marshall, who came in with an excellent 152, over 36 holes. Runner-up was Cheryl Brownrigg, just a "wee bit" behind. Dale Ball won the B Division from Kerry Fell and Marinda Callaghan was the C Div winner from Beryl Hale. Marinda kept up her fine form in the Pro Shop Bronze Championship, played at Kyalami and was the winner over 36 holes. Merrilyn Simpson and Maret Hopwood were also among the prizewinners.
The Ladies AGM passed without incident and the new Captain and committee installed. We wish Pat Pretorius a happy and successful year in the Captaincy and say "goodbye" to Annette Lawson who moves to the Vice President position. Annette is a little subdued at the moment---the poor lass is just suffering from withdrawal symptoms, having been separated from her beloved "Mike"----I refer to a microphone, by the way, not her husband---he's called Rob !!
The new committee comprises: Vice- President Annette Lawson, Captain Pat Pretorius, Vice- Captain Barbara Wood, Sue Norval, Gill van der Meulen, Les Rule, Sue Prior and Robyn Ireland, Secretary May Walsh.
Sadly, Sally Denovan, one of our long-standing members died in March. Sally was one of the prettiest and most elegant ladies to grace our fairways, and to her sister, Lolly, her children and grandchildren, we express our deepest sympathy.
