I would ask members for your patience and forbearance from October 4, when the alterations to the clubhouse are planned to start, to the middle of April when we expect them to be finished. The demolition of our administration offices is the first area that will put us under some strain.

Herewith, answers to some of the questions that I am frequently asked:

• The new men's changeroom will be approximately twice the size of the present one. There will be wooden lockers, plush carpets and state-of-the-art shower roses. A steam room will be added to the sauna. We are likely to start construction of the new changeroom in January.

• There will be only one entrance to the course - through the Golf Shop. This, we believe, will increase security. The new situation of the Golf Shop will also ensure a better flow of people onto the course.

• Please have all your golf bags removed from the bag room by the end of September. You will have to keep your clubs in the boot of your car or at home until the new bag room is constructed.

• Members will be pleased to know that Duncanrig Construction will carry out all the alterations, and Jonathan Ridler from our architects, Ridler Shepherd Low, is a member.

I am also receiving pressure from Janet Stothard to increase the size of the function room and to refurbish the kitchens. However, we have had to prioritise and we can be proud of the fact that although we are spending over R3-million on the alterations no levy is being imposed on members.
