SAMS Swing for Spring 2012

This week, the wonderful world of SAMS had their third major of the year, Swing for Spring.

The weather definitely played its part as it was absolutely superb. After a great day was spent on the course, Shaun Stapleton’s eagle on the 8th as well as Andy Ostle’s eagle on the 14th, the day was rounded up with the usual prize giving. With one of the SAMS captains away, Kevin Corlett stepped in and helped.

Thank you Kevin for “raising” so much money from Bruce Laubscher and his newly acquired tog bag. Kevin was handed a tog bag, full of slightly used items for an auction. Bruce got into a bidding war with Angus Murray but eventually won. After sitting down with his new tog bag, another SAMS member, Neill Nortjie, realised the bag looked remarkably like the one he owns. So much so that it turned out to be Neill’s bag. Neill for some reason wanted his bag back with all the items inside. The POW for the week was chosen for his morning grumpiness and the fact he had just turned 62.

Graham Pfuhl was a great sport running around collecting all the fines from everyone, ranging from Mike Laubschers fine for having a caddie and push cart with being only 20 to Francis Jabour hitting his playing partner, Greg Brown, on the 16th.

Even though his fourball didn’t come in the top three, Albert Smith took home the Itec Converge sponsored Johnnie Walker Black and the spoils for the best net for the day with a net 64. The eventual winners of the day went to the fourball of Ryan Swan, John McLaughlin, Rod Leech and Peter Breytenbach. The SAMS captains would like to thank the following companies and individuals for their generosity for providing prizes: Nestle, Tsogo Sun, Brand House, Enmasse, SAB, Stallion Security, Vodacom, Wanderers Main Club, Willoughby’s Hyde Park, Chris Carrington, Dion Coulentianos, Terry Hewitt, Sean Higgs, Mike Hockey, Randall Lewis, Tony McGuirk, Dean Redelinghuys, Alan Robertson, Gavin White, Kevin Corlett and Gavin Lukan.
