Report back on Club Champs by Lenn Flanagan

Thursday, 26 March 2015

The annual club championship tournament that takes place usually in April due to the rain season playing a part, was moved this year to the weekend of 14 and 15 March. I am pleased to report that the weather played its part and that we had no rain interruption and we were able to complete 36 holes of golf.

Hats off to Willie Botes’ and his team on the course for producing a great golf course for the weekend, the greens were not as speedy as they normally are but the putting surface was of good quality and the players were able to fire shots at tight pins and allow potential birdie opportunities.

Having personally run the club champs tournament for the past 15 years, this weekend of golf at the Wanderers is truly the highlight of the golfing calendar for me. What I really love about the event is the passion in which every member plays the game, no matter what division you compete in, the honour of being the club champion and the best golfer in your handicap category is an achievement that every competitive golfer strives for.

This year, our 2015 Club Champion is John Nienaber. I have never seen a club champion so well received as John was this year, truly a very popular winner. John has played competitive golf for more than 25 years now and attributes his win as being the highlight of his golfing career.
