THREE JUNIOR WANDERERS GIRLS EXCEL AT SA GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIPS HELD IN ORKNEY, 28 – 30 JUNE 2015

Three of our junior girls were selected as part of the Ladies Golf Gauteng contingent to attend the SA Girls Championships held in Orkney from 28 – 30 June.  Although there was a chilly start to the tournament, the weather warmed up nicely for the final round on Tuesday.

Two of the girls are part of Andy Ostle’s SAGDB group and became members of Wanderers last year.  Francois has now started coaching them, as well as help from Andy who oversees their practice at the World of Golf each week.  Tebogo Lefifi, (aged 10)  is a pupil at Lyndhurst Primary School and Palesa Rafutho (aged 13) goes to Maryvale College.  Tebogo came 1st (76 points) and Palesa 2nd (73 points) in the D Division in Orkney.  We look forward to seeing them progress to the C Division next year.

The other Wanderers member in the Gauteng contingent was Chiara Contomathios who joined Wanderers earlier this year.  Chiara (15) is a 3 handicap and won the prestigious National Rose Bowl tournament in the Cape in March.  She beat the reigning number one junior in South Africa, Ivanna Samu who is also Gauteng’s top ranked golfer.  Ivanna won the SA Girls Tournament in an exciting, sudden death play-off.  Recently, Chiara captained the Gauteng C Team at the WGSA National 72 Holes Team Championships in East London.  Chiara came 8th (79, 77, 75) in Orkney.
