Whose new?

Thursday, 05 April 2012
For those of you who don't already know, Chris Leicher is our new Club Chairman and his Vice for the next 3 years is Andre Gross.   Bruno Van Eck is Russell Sourgen’s Vice Captain.
Our Club Captain Russell Sourgen, officiated his very first Saturday Prize Giving as your new Club Captain and in the spirit of taking over the helm, Russell donned his Navy captains cap and took to the challenge with much gusto and promise for a very exciting 2 years ahead. Already we have had some positive change to our comps and knockouts, previously we were never allowed to enter the club comp when playing a knockout game, this has changed, you are most welcome to enter the club comp, just remember to putt out for your competition score. Again don't forget to enter your handicap score after your round as you will no longer enjoy the no return after beating your opponents after shooting your career best 18 hole score.
Photo and comment from Lenn..... How cool are the Doc’s trousers and belt pictured aongside?! At the good age of 89, our Doctor Neifeld is as passionate about the game of golf as he was when he first started playing the game. Talk about a game of a lifetime... just ask Doc Neifeld. He will be available any Sunday morning and don’t forget to bring your cash!

SAMS Captains Corner

Friday, 30 March 2012
THE SAMS CAPTAINS CORNER This week in the wonderful world of SAMS, was sponsored by Stallion Security. Long standing SAMS member, Gavin White stole the day by scoring a splendid net 64 to win the Itec Converge Johnnie Walker Black, his life time best score. Ray Coole was looking good for the helmet with his numerous golfing misdemeanours in the company of the SAMS captain – extremely late on the tee, making more jokes than stableford points, making pigeon noises all day and scoring a net 80. A far greater misdemeanour must have occurred for Ray not to get the helmet. It was decided by the SAMS elder statesmen’s that it was “the right thing to do” to don the honour of the famous helmet on SAMS captain Stuart Smith for putting in a supreme effort to prepare for the SAMS St Patrick’s Day major, only to pull out at…

Well played Tandi !

Friday, 30 March 2012
WELL PLAYED TANDI….. This past week, Tandi Cuningham had a fantastic start to her year on the Ladies European Tour, finishing 2nd in Morocco and earning enough money to see her comfortably through the remainder of the year on tour. Tandi has had a really tough time over the last 2 years, having had to return to qualifying school, always finding herself a little short and never in an easy situation on tour. Her hard work and determination has paid off, kick starting her season with her 2nd place finish is testimony to her spirit and determination to make a name for herself on the Ladies European Tour. Tandi is a very talented golfer and although she has had a couple of slow years on tour, it was never a question of whether she was good enough to make it, rather a matter of when she was going to break…

MID AM Update March 2012

Friday, 30 March 2012
MID AM UPDATE FOR MARCH The Wanderers Mid Am team played their second match of the season on 10 March at Glendower against a very strong Glendower side that had already won both their opening two matches. Unfortunately, several of our players were unavailable for the match. We were beaten quite comprehensively by the strong Glendower team but, the gents that represented us, did so in true Wanderers spirit. Not great to lose a match but we’ll be back, of this I’m sure! We are currently lying joint second on the log and with 6 matches left to play and with the return match against Glendower scheduled at Wanderers GC, I firmly believe that the title is wide open. We take on the boys of Glenvista at their home course in mid-May and hopefully we will be back to full strength for this match. Watch out for the Mid Am…
As the afternoon Old Mutual International Pairs qualifier was rained out 2 weeks ago, this Saturday we will be replaying the afternoon event with 2 betterball places up for grabs into the regional qualifier. Good luck to all playing, the OMIPSA event is really a world class event! Should you qualify in the national qualifier, you and your playing partner will be treated to some awesome golf in Scotland.
This week Saturday we welcome you once again to the Stallion Security sponsored Saturday. I am sure that you share with me that our sponsors bring us added value and better golfing events across the board. I urge you to take advantage of the extra value in prizes and also to support you sponsors wherever you can.
