C.O.W. 28 July 2012

Monday, 06 August 2012
This week’s C.O.W was awarded to Gary Eccles Aka Smokey. Gary got the nickname after his first season as Mid Am manager as he always used to say that arranging 8 golfers on the same day was so tough that shoveling smoke was an easier option. After a rather disappointing Mid Am league game vs Randpark, where we were unfortunately beaten by Randpark, none other than our esteemed Mid Am Captain/Manager/Smoke Shoveller was qualified enough to collect fines and wear the hat. Thanks Gary for always being a sport and collecting fines for our Captain, most appreciated.
Saturday sponsored by Rivonia Toyota, again proved to be another fantastic event at the Wanderers Golf Club. Mike Macdonald pulled all the stops and even paid the majority of the green fee for those loyal customers of his. As the official Wanderers launch of the new Toyota 86, Rivonia Toyota provided additional prizes. Mike Macdonald invited some of his clients to play in the day as well as to experience the wonderful Wanderers vibe, however Rian Swart decided that the draw that Mike had setup for the day was not what he had in mind so took it upon himself to re-do the draw and for his efforts, was awarded the C.O.W as well as paying a handsome fine towards the Captain’s kitty.
Old Mutual International Pairs Regional Qualifying Winners Congratulations to Marshall Walford and Steven Jack on their fantastic win at Glendower on Tuesday. Marshall and Steven qualified at Wanderers and won the Regional qualifier with 41 points, this means that they will now represent Wanderers at Zebula in the 2012 National Finals and could win a place in the Grand Finale to be played in Scotland later this year. Well done guys, I am confident that you will keep the Wanderers Flag flying high and will get the job done at Zebula.
THE SAM'S CAPTAINS CORNER  This week in the wonderful world of SAMS, sponsored by Lazzarra Lechier Incorporated, 2 legends of SAMS celebrated their birthdays – Mike Dix and Tommy Webbster. So we as the SAMS captains, decided to give one of them a nice German war helmet as a party hat – Dixie you looked so good. Dixie collected from: Dave “I did a karate chop on my golf bag” Kelly, Charger “slippery grips” Jack, Naartjie for his Zimbabwe maths on the scorecard, Roy Dinsdale for writing the SAMS captains a love letter about Trevor Jacksons playground antics on the 16th green – and of course Trevor contributed to the potty. Gavin White got 2 visits from Dixie – one for supporting the sharks and the other for supporting Lenn’s Proshop by buying new shoes, thinking his shoes were lost, meanwhile they were left in the cleaning room. Amongst all…

8th Hole-in-One

Monday, 16 July 2012
On Thursday, Simmy Unty recorded his 8th career hole in one on the 6th hole, also winning for himself a case of Castle Lite. With Meyer’s recent retirement from SAB Miller, Simmy was a little low on cold beers and made sure that he would win the beers by ensuring that no one got inside him. Well done Simmy and congrats on another awesome golf shot.

New Lady Member - Angela Bott

Monday, 16 July 2012
Angela Bott, one of our new lady members and also an avid supporter of our Thursday PM Champions League, ran the 2012 Comrades Marathon. This year was Angela’s first Comrades and her success speaks for itself. Angela finished in a time of 8 hours and 37 minutes to win herself a Bill Rowan Medal. Not only is Angela extremely fit, she also has a strong work ethic on the golf course and has seen her handicap drop from 34 to 30 in less than 3 weeks. Well done Angela, keep it up and your golf will grow from strength to strength.
