Pretty in Pink

Monday, 24 October 2011
Pink seems to be the new Black? On Saturday, SAMS held their "PRIDE" day, open to any member of the club on condition that you had to wear Pink. Not only was the dress code compulsory but the men had to play from the ladies tee. Having had a chat to the majority of the guys playing, one thing that stood out was that although the course played a whole lot shorter than normal, the scoring was no better than when the chaps played from the men's tees. Its hard to believe but very interesting to note that obviously we do not pay enough attention to our short game. I understand that we would rather boom tee shots down the fairway, leaving short clubs to the green and if we score or not, we arrive on the next tee and try again to boom one out there.

SAB Golf Day with Graeme Joffe

Thursday, 13 October 2011
Joffers My Boy!On Tuesday, we hosted the SAB golf day, Graeme Joffe had a magnificent day out on our course, shooting his best ever score, a gross 72. Well played Joffers.Graeme was so impressed with his caddy Lucas! Lucas was a regular caddy on the Sunshine tour and used all his skills and knowledge of the game to guide Joffers around the Wanderers for his career best, could not have been an easy task as we all know the Joffers has hit his golf ball in places that our ground staff have yet to discover.Joffers was blown away, so much so that he insisted that I make mention in my mail that he shot his best ever score and has also asked that we keep his pic on the website for some time, for all his mates to see that he is in fact a reasonable golfer and not the…

NTP - Robert Raad

Wednesday, 12 October 2011
Spring has sprung and with the changing colour and the rejuvenation of the golf course, so too the level of golf played at the Wanderers notched up quite considerably. Young Robert Raad, on Thursday won the Castle Lite Nearest the pin, and in doing so achieved his first ever under par round of golf. Robert plays off a 3 handicap and shot a magnificent 69 gross and did so, playing with some pretty handy golfers. Robert partnered John Nienaber and together gave the Pro's a run for their money. Francois and Gavin had no chance against John and Robert and after running around in 69, they had no choice but to hand over the cash after the game. Well done Robert on a fantastic golf score, I know you are going to do very well in your golfing career. Thanks Lenn.

Swans this month - October 2011

Wednesday, 12 October 2011
Our Swans Hymie and Rachel pictured on their nest, have 7 eggs which should be hatching anytime now, we ask that you please keep away from their nest as they are very aggressive at the moment and will have a go at you should they feel threatened. On Wednesday Dr Chris Carrington, gave us the go ahead to let Rudy out and to get him back on the course with Collette, I can report that he is doing exceptionally well and though he is walking with a limp, he has made an amazing recovery and is really enjoying himself back out on the course. Thank you for the update Lenn.
