The Wanderers Golf Academy was established in 2003. Having never had any established golf instruction for quite some time, it was felt that there was a real need to add this as service for the members at the club and to introduce the game to those in the surrounding suburbs.

Besides one-on-one tuition for the members, the academy is open to all who wish to learn more about the game. From visiting hotel guests, to corporate clinics, ladies clinics and junior clinics, we offer simple basic instruction to those wanting to start the game, and more advanced tuition to those better players, right up to the professional level.

We have developed a holistic training program, called “GAP 2 SUCCESS”, tailor made for golfers at all levels, which consists of a self-awareness of current abilities, goal setting, long-game assessment, short-game assessment and playing assessments. We use video analysis in our long-game lessons and use the “Dave Pelz” system for our short-game tuition. Mental, physical and even nutritional needs are dealt with where need be, to take your game to a whole new level.

Paul Cuningham is the head coach at the academy and has an assistant, Werner Geyer, who is highly qualified in all the above-mentioned disciplines. Paul has been teaching fulltime for the past five years, had a successful amateur career and played the professional circuit for six years.

The academy is growing from strength to strength, its students are improving all the time and the future is looking bright for all those concerned.

Paul Cuningham

Paul is the head teaching professional at the Wanderers Golf Club and has been teaching golf for the past six years. Two years of which he taught at the Damelin Golf Academy, under the watchful eye of Martin Whitcher and one year of which he worked on refining his own teaching technique at Jim & Gerry’s Driving Range. During this time he studied the finer arts of the game and was introduced to the Dave Pelz method of teaching, a short game guru in the states, who unlocked the secrets of the scoring game. Paul is a member of the Sunshine Tour, a pro since ’96, played senior amateur golf for 5 years, junior golf for 5 years and attained full provincial colours in both.

Werner Geyer

Werner Geyer is currently a fully exempt member of the Sunshine Tour. Has represented and captained the Central Gauteng provincial teams at U/23 and senior level. During the past 10 years of competitive golf has worked with Wayne Westner, Cobie Le Grange, Martin Whitcher and Gavan Levenson on a very personal manner to not only improve his game but to understand more about all the different facets of the golfing industry.
